Teaching a teen to shave especially a girl can be difficult.Imagine the look of horror on your daughters face when you suddenly inform her that in the interest of hygiene she has to start shaving.Images of her father or brother gliding a razor over their chins will automatically spring to her mind and panic will hit her like a lead balloon.No woman wants to be seen as unfeminine least of all a vulnerable teen,she may even visualize herself as having started to sprout hairs on her face in the form of a beard.These are typical fears and it is important that we can lay them to rest with reassurance.

Shaving is not just about grabbing a razor it is about growing up and starting the journey from teen to woman.When addressing this issue it is important to discuss the reasons for shaving and to explain the areas that are more problematic than others.Children need all the facts so they feel well equipped to cope.
Encourage your daughter to chose a razor they feel comfortable with.This can be done on a girlie shopping trip together.Visit lots of stores and give them plenty of choice as to the razors that are available,explain about practicality and safety as well as comfort.
Once the razor has been purchased spend an evening alone to try it out.If you show your teenager shaving doesn't hurt they will relax more.Let your child see you shaving so they can see how it is done.Make it fun and keep the lines of communication open.Make sure you inform your child of all the relevant facts such as how often do they need to shave.
Never laugh at your child if they make a mistake and cut them selves a little the first time.Regale them with your first attempt disasters so that they know it is normal to get it wrong.It is also important not to discus the fact your teenager has started to shave with other family members,this is a private matter.A female bond between mother and daughter.
