The very idea of the Caribbean conveys an image of luxurious seaside resorts. Being pampered in a world class spa, waited on hand and foot, and relaxing for days on end are reasons enough to make anyone long for a vacation by the sea.
The same goes in Jamaica, where the beaches are breath taking, the people are friendly, and the hotels are fit for royalty. Scattered about the island are a number of 4 and 5 star luxury resorts, but there are a few that simply go above and beyond.
Situated on the world famous Seven Mile Beach in Negril is one such place. The Grand Lido Negril is an all inclusive AAA 4 diamond award winner. This 16 and up resort is home to 210 suites placed perfectly amid 22 acres of landscaped tropical gardens.
The Grand Lido features a fitness center, spa, a variety of water sports, numerous restaurants and bars, and even a disco, among many other priceless amenities. Tee off at the Negril Country Club free of charge, say your vows at a beach side wedding, or simply sit back and enjoy the scenery, a stay here will be one to remember.
Rates vary from about $3,000 to $4,200 for a seven night stay, but it's worth every penny at the Grand Lido, where tipping is absolutely forbidden.
In Montego Bay, Half Moon is another amazingly luxurious resort, sitting picturesquely on Jamaica's northern coast. Here you can stay in a private cottage surrounded by native gardens.
Half Moon offers a spa, a health and fitness center, and an 18 hole golf course among its many features. Drop the kids off at the children's center and buy a few souvenirs at the shopping village. With its 6 restaurants and 7 bars, Half Moon is for both families and couples.
Rooms range in price from $205 to $470 a night, and suites from $315 to $470.
Perhaps one of the most unique places to stay, but still very luxurious, are the Blue Lagoon Villas in Port Antonio. The villas range in size from 2 to 4 bedrooms, each nestled directly over the water at the foot of the Blue Mountains.
Each villa comes equipped with and indoor and outdoor living, dining, and entertainment area. Kitchens are standard as well as a chef, butler, and housekeeper. Here the sun decks have stairs that lead directly into the water, where you can hop into a kayak to paddle to one of the untouched surrounding beaches.
The Blue Lagoon Villas range in rates from $6,500 to $12,500 a week, but are worth the price for the amazing view and unique accommodations.
In the buzzing city of Ocho Rios awaits the Royal Plantation in all its grandeur. This 8 acre property is among the best of the best, awarded 5 stars for its luxury and elegance.
Here, suites feature plush robes, marble vanities, and mahogany beds. The resort includes a world class spa, 24 hour room service, golf, tennis, and nightly entertainment. Grab a bite at one of its 3 gourmet restaurants or a drink at either of the 2 bars, or swim a few laps in one of the resorts 3 pools.
A week long stay in an oceanfront suite at the Royal Plantation will cost about $4,400.
There are many other resorts that could be called luxurious on the island, but these are among the best. No matter which area you plan to visit, if you are willing to pay the price, then all of the elegance in the world awaits you.
