I've got one word but it's name has been changed to protect the innocent. Tastes like grapes and looks like an apple.
What IS that? I've bought them exactly three times and it wasn't my curiosity that lead me to do so. It was my son who HAD to have them.
I smelled them. Yes, they smelled like grapes. I tasted one and it was like a blanched grape. Didn't love it. Don't want it again.
What's more, my instincts screamed to me "no, no, no" even more loudly than when I consider buying potato chips. With potato chips it is more with the thought of where can I afford the fat that this morsel will bring for a moment and do I really need to clog my arteries? With the apple that tastes like a grape, it is something primitive, instinctive and dark that says "nope, you're not getting those again, I don't care what kind of puppy dog eyes that child gives you."
I was eversodelighted when my dear son decided it would be a good present to give the teachers an apple that tastes like a grape. If they were as thrilled as I was with the whole concept, okay, well..we must consider the act of the gift-giving.
Genetically modified foods; safe to consume? The world doesn't REALLY know right now, do we? If we "knew knew", we'd not HAVE genetically altered foods. If we "knew knew" we wouldn't have sugarless sugar.
The only advice I feel comfortable offering on this is that I know that nature intended for us to get the health benefits from foods as they are grown. When was the last time you had corn on the cob without butter? Has it ever happened? What is this watermelon with salt thing? Did you know that celery tastes good without "stuff" and that the strings are fiber and they're pretty easy to chew and swallow.
Tomatoes, with basil, both garden grown. Mmmm..
Now....with those images of Mother Nature delivered scrumptious bounty, envision the apple that tastes like a grape.
Bon Appetit!
