The case for the separation of church and state

Somebody tell me when did we ever not have a seperation of church and state? It has always been that way since the Constitution was ratified by the states. We never have had nor will we ever have a state sponsored religion.

Yet, we constantly hear about the ACLU or some other wimp crying because they got insulted because somebody put up a Christmas decoration that included the baby Jesus. They get upset because somebody puts crosses on the side of a road. They get upset because a town has a manger scene. They get upset because a store clerk says Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays. They even get upset about Christmas trees. Somehow they also think Santa Claus is a religious symbol.

These people are insane. You don't see them getting upset when an airport sets aside space for Muslims to pray, but that same airport won't set up a chapel for others to use. They don't get upset when airports put foot basins in their restrooms for the Muslims to wash their stinking feet but they would go wild if we asked them to put a pedestal with a bowl on top and holy water in it so we can bless ourselves before we go.

This Country belongs to all of us not a select few who are so shaky in their own faith that they will let a symbol of someone else's faith ruin their day. I don't care if you put your prayer rug down in the middle of the street to honor your god, just don't tell me when or how to honor mine.

This Country was founded by people who believed in God. It was not founded by atheists or scared little weasels whose religion is so rigid that they can't recognize other's beliefs.

Although the concept of Christianity is not a state sponsored religion it is a large part of our American Culture. Somehow or another we got by for a couple of hundred years with things like public displays of mangers, Christmas trees, decorations, Christmas songs, even songs about Jesus, and we didn't self destruct nor did we destroy anybody else's religion. We also allowed them to display items of their religion or religious holidays without anybody bitching about it.

What makes people so paranoid about separation of church and state? Are you afraid that if we recognize that here really is a God that you will become insignificant?

WE like to celebrate Christmas in this Country because it means something to us. Not only are we celebrating what we consider the birth of Jesus Christ but we are celebrating a feeling. A feeling that maybe some day there actually can be "peace on earth" It's the
