Selling your items on eBay is a huge rush; watching them languish, unsold, is a terrible feeling. After ruling out several reasons that your items haven't sold, you determine that your lonely items must have been priced wrong - so how do you make sure the price is right?
FIND THE FAIR MARKET VALUE
Research several items that are similar to yours on eBay or other online auction sites. When you see the pricing patterns emerge, you're on your way to finding the right amount to charge for your item. Remember, even though you think the item is priceless, buyers may not see it that way - so try to be fair in your pricing to maximize your selling potential.
ATTRACT THE BIDDERS
When you've found the fair market value of your item, it's a good idea to set it as your reserve price. If your reserve price is not met, you're not obligated to sell the item. The best thing about setting a reserve price is that you can start the bidding with a very small number - after that, the bidding will take off on it's own. The more bidders you attract, the more likely you are to meet (or exceed) your reserve price.
ACCOUNT FOR SHIPPING COSTS
Nothing ships for free - and most eBay bidders are well aware that in addition to the price they're paying for your item, they've got to pay shipping costs. You should always find the best deal on postage for shipping your item before you even list it. When you do list it, let buyers know that it's the best you could find, and if they've got a better idea to let you know! Few sellers actually do this on eBay, but it will increase your popularity and feedback exponentially by showing buyers that you're willing to help them get the best deal. On top of that, buyers will see you as friendly and take note that you're easier to work with than your competitors.
When you've found the fair market value for your item, don't forget to start the bidding low so that you can attract bidders. If your reserve price is fair, you should have no problem reaching - and hopefully exceeding - that number. Finally, help your buyers get the best deal on shipping so that they'll be happy with both the price and your customer service skills - repeat buyers can launch your eBay selling career to stunning success.
