Tips on teaching your teen girl to shave

There are many things that go through a parent's mind when it comes to the realization that their little girl is beginning to grow up. One of these very first signs is hair. They are begging you to begin shaving, or maybe they are not. They could be avoiding it like the plague. Either way, you have some work to do. I am not going to explain to you how to shave, you know that already. I believe you are looking for advice on how to teach your child to shave so here are a few tips.

First things first. Make sure your child would like your advice and your help. If not, ask her if she thinks she knows what she is doing. If she says yes, then let her give it a shot on her own. Just make sure you are ready if she cuts herself.

If she would like your help, then take a little time to think about how you are going to do this. It should not be that hard. After all, you have been shaving for many, many years. It is one of the easiest things in the world, right? Well, for most it is. This is why it should not be difficult at all, nor will it take much time to teach her how to shave.

Shaving is a right of passage of some sort and should be treated as such. Taking your teen daughter to the store to purchase supplies might be a good idea. She probably already knows exactly which shaving cream she wants to use if she watches television and sees the commercials. I am certain that she will probably know the exact razor as well. If you make sure that you pick those things up, then she will be much more comfortable with this new era in her life.

If she wants you in the bathroom with her while she gives it a go, then by all means do it. If she does not, then give her the space she needs. Either way, explain the steps carefully and ask her to repeat them to you so that your are certain that she understands. If you are with her, watch her carefully and be quick to point out if she is putting too much pressure on the razor. If you are not, make sure she understands the proper amount of pressure to use to avoid cuts. Make sure she uses lotion on her legs afterward and make sure you explain to her why. Shaving bumps can freak a girl out the first time they get them.

Since this is a right of passage, when she is finished, it may be a good idea to go out for a pedicure, manicure or maybe just some ice-cream. This is a big day in your daughter's life, enjoy it and let her know that you will be there to help with the next big day that will surely come quicker than you will know.
