Wikipedia is not a threat to Google. Google provides ways to index and search through large quantities of online data. Wikipedia on the other hand is a sight that harnesses the knowledge of large groups to document knowledge of various subjects.

Google's business model is based on the need for indexing vast amounts of digital information. Google now indexes everything from patents to email to books. They are also branching out into an online desktop model that can provide things such as email, and online applications. Wikipedia in contrast is a non-profit organization that harnesses the knowledge of it's users to provide a vast online encyclopaedia of information.

The functions of the two sites are not in conflict or competition. Think of Wikipedia as the reference section of a library and Google as the library catalog. Google is actually complementary to Wikipedia. Wikipedia provides the top results for many of Google's content searches and Google provides the traffic that makes the Wikipedia site function. Without the traffic from Google fewer people would use and contribute to Wikipedia.

If one were to ask an executive at Google, they would probably find that Google makes a great deal of money, through advertising, just indexing the information on Wikipedia. Wikipedia finds Google's indexing and and the traffic from Google to be just as valuable. Instead of being in competition they actually have a symbiotic relationship.

It is obvious that the two sites while both based on delivering information are not in conflict with each other.
