I know this will probably sound incredibly un-creative but I know that once I hit a certain age, as a teenager that I pretty much just simply wanted cash. At Christmas time I wanted to get as much cash as possible and then I wanted to go to the mall the next day to go on a big spending spree. These days you can buy pre-paid credit cards as gifts as well, these can be used at any store just like a credit card, but of course after they spend the pre-paid amount they are done.
I remember not really liking getting clothing items because frankly I did not like what other people picked out for me. So unless you really understand a teenage girl's taste in clothing, or you have gone shopping or browsing with the teenage girl and saw some clothing items that she actually liked, buying clothing for a teen age girl is often not wise. If you have been out shopping or browsing with her, and she loved some items you could of course go back to the store later and purchase those items, since you know she likes them. If you think you will have trouble remembering try to sneak the item to the counter when she is not looking and discreetly ask the sales person if they will hold it for you.
Most teenage girls like make up. They can't get enough so buying them a makeup kit with lots of different colors, and shades of eye shadow, blush, and lip color will make them happy. Remember teen agers are all about appearances. You could also take them to a place like Merle Norman where they can learn to apply make up properly. There are also many wonderful books out that can teach girls to put make up on properly, such as: Makeup Makeovers: Expert Secrets for Stunning Transformations by Robert Jones, Fast Beauty: 1,000 Quick Fixes by Rona Berg, and Bobbi Brown Living Beauty by, Bobbi Brown.
Teenagers are also really in to celebrities so another book they might really like is The Black Book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets by, Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman.
Teenage girls as well as us grown up women love scented lotions, and body sprays. When I go to the mall with my teenage nieces and my daughter the one store that we all love is Bath and Body Works. Take them in to that store or strike up a conversation about it with the teenage girl, chances are they have at least one favorite fragrance from that store, if not a few. One of my nieces likes fruity fragrances the other one likes Vanilla and Cinnamon type scents. This makes it really easy for me to buy them gifts from Bath and Body works.
Of course
