Chapter Three All Change

Long after Emily had fallen asleep, Rachel lay listening to the sound of her rhythmic breathing, still thinking about how to dump Mark. She couldn't just say it she would have to think of some sort of legitimate reason. Whatever happened, he was bound to get very, very angry. She wasn't looking forward to that. Sighing, she turned over. At least she wouldn't have to see him until break timeshe'd think about it during lessons one and two

It was break time. She was just about to tell Mark. She took a deep breath as she saw him come round the corner. Okay, here goes, she told herself.
"Mark, there's something I need to talk to you about"
"Yes?" Mark asked, expectantly.
"II think we should break up."
"What?" Mark said, very slowly. She repeated herself, swallowing hard.
His eyes narrowed and he began to shake with anger. He pushed her hard up against the wall. "You do not break up with Mark Thompson." He said very softly, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw strange creatures creeping up behind Mark. He seemed completely oblivious to what was happening behind him and as the nearest creature came even closer, Rachel saw that it was covered from head to foot in ice but was in human form. Horrified, she screamed as loudly as she could

and found herself back in bed, with Emily staring at her like she was some sort of mad person.
"Um, are you okay?" Emily asked.
"Yeah, bad dream," Rachel said, taking a deep breath and wondering if that meant anything at all, "What's the time?"
"Seven thirty, I was just about to wake youbut then you screamed"
"Sorry," Rachel said, stretching and getting out of bed. She dragged herself into the bathroom, and began to get changed into school uniform.
By the time she came out, Emily was already checking their timetables (which they had been given the night before) and seeing which lessons they had together. She looked up as Rachel came and looked over her shoulder.
"We're together for everything except the obvious oneslike geography, 'cause I don't take it." Rachel giggled as she watched Emily frowning at the timetables.
"That's cool," she said, looking at her own timetable, and pulling exercise books out of the drawer she'd put all her writing things in, along with her music. As she put the books she needed for the day into her bag, she remembered her dream and frowned, still trying to figure it out, and then
