Go green and give up your cell phone?

The environment... I am not exactly sure what that refers to, I will asume that we are discussing the biosphere. In my opinion cell phones have a very positive effect on the environment. Let me explain. The value of information being exchanged these days far outweighs the actual impact a pocket sized device has as it relates to pollution. I come from one of those African countries with a severe lack in infrastructure. In such an enviroment it has become common practice to rent our cellphones on street corners and allowing people to show up with their own sim card that gets inserted, not to make a call, but to send and receive text messages.
The preceding example demonstrates the overwelming need for communication. A quick cancellation of an appointment on a cell phone text message will save the parties the effort of having to walk through a field, in the process killing little bugs and flowers, thereby also avoiding frustration which might lead to distructive practices such as stone kicking. There is a code all docktors and nurses know, it goes something like "first do no harm", I think communication by the most versatile device of the time allows us to be better stewards of this planet. Thankyou.
