Anniversary Gift Ideas

As the first anniversary of our wedding day approached, my mom suggested we follow either the traditional or modern format for our gift ideas. At first, the idea sounded very antiquated. Everyone Ray and I knew based their gift ideas on their spouse's hobbies. The idea of buying something paper for a first anniversary seemed very bland. However, we decided to give it a try. If we didn't like doing it, we could quit. What we found is that having a format made us become more creative in our gifts. The modern gift ideas are very straightforward in what you will give. For this reason, we decided to follow the traditional ideas. We wanted to have more room to fit the gift to each others interests. I hope you enjoy the ideas from our first ten years!

Year One: Paper

This year was the easiest for each of us to follow. We exchanged cards, which are paper. I also filled an envelope with strips of construction paper strips that I had designed as coupons for various things such as a massage, control of the TV for a night, 100 kisses and a blank coupon that he could fill out. I do believe the blank coupon was his favorite by far!

Year Two: Cotton

Ray gave me a shopping spree for some new clothes for year two. What woman doesn't like the opportunity to pick out a few new outfits? Now, ladies, if your husband should do this for you as well, consider his personality before you drag him to the mall with you. Ray loves to see me in new clothes, but would prefer to not shop with me. I can respect this, as I would not choose to go to something he is interested in such as the drag races. The only problem is that I like to know Ray's opinion on an outfit before I buy it. For this reason, I take my cell phone with me and have a clerk take a picture of me in whatever I really like. Then I can simply send the picture to his cell phone and he can comment. We both win!

As far as my gift to him, I like to get him things he will not expect. Clothing seemed too obvious to me. I knew he didn't really care if we had new bed sheets or not. For his cotton gift, I finally decided on a sweet treat. Cotton Candy. Unexpected, yet perfect. This is one gift that can be enjoyed that evening by both!

Year Three: Leather

Most people get a very sly smile on their face when you say that it is your leather anniversary, yet they refuse to say why. At the same time, it can be quite embarrassing to discuss gift ideas for this anniversary with your mom. Thankfully, Ray didn't get me anything
