Feng shui tips for the bathroom

Feng Shui encourages the flow of vital energy, or Chi, throughout your home. Simple tips for Feng Shui design can be incorporated in any room, but these Feng Shui tips are especially important in preventing energy loss through bathrooms.

While Feng Shui principles promote Chi to flow, the many drains in a bathroom can cause Chi to flow right out of your house. Toilets cause the largest drain in energy, however sinks, showers, and bathtub drains are all places to lose vital Chi.

The easiest way to prevent this energy loss is to close the lid whenever a toilet is not in use. To prevent additional loss, close sink, shower, and bathtub stoppers between uses as well. Cover the drains with a small rubber mat if they do not have a stopper.

If it is possible, install the toilet in an alcove that is not in direct view of the bathroom door or shield it with a screen or divider. Another simple tip for Feng Shui in the bathroom is to hang a round crystal from the ceiling between the toilet and door to raise energy.

While bathrooms are functional rooms, they should also be designed to be beautiful and inviting. Cleaning bathrooms frequently will promote a pleasing atmosphere and stimulate positive energy. Frequent cleanings are also important because a neglected bathroom will drain vital energy more quickly.

Bathrooms are used for cleansing ourselves and contain an abundance of water. Tips for Feng Shui design are often based on the fundamental importance of balancing the elements. The large quantity of water present can cause an elemental imbalance in our bathrooms.

When decorating a bathroom, consider bringing in the elements of wood, fire, and earth to balance the water already present. You can do this by choosing a color scheme of greens, blues, reds, yellows, or earthtones. Artwork portraying landscapes and gardens brings in earth and wood, while pictures of people or animals represent fire.

To quickly refresh a bathroom without fully redecorating, bring in healthy plants, colorful hand towels, and give it a good cleaning. Bathroom accessories, such as soap dishes and lotion dispensers, are available in a variety of styles and price ranges and can easily dress up your bathroom.

By following these simple tips for Feng Shui design, you can encourage positive energy and prevent your bathrooms from draining the vital Chi in your home.
