The most polluted places in the US

The United States is full of people. It is a country that produces and produces just so people can use and throw away. Everywhere you go there is trash and our air is anything but clean. The top ten cities in the US that are full of pollution seem to constantly get a spot on the list. Some of the cities may not even surprise you. With an effort to try and lower their pollution, these cities still struggle with a clean environment.

Los Angeles, CA
There are over ten million residents in Los Angeles. With so many people there is bound to be a lot of pollution, making Los Angeles number one on America's most polluted city. The city rests in the middle of a lot of mountains. With this kind of terrain, it is very easy for polluted air to become trapped causing problems such as smog. Air pollution is not the only problem for this city. Las Angeles also has a lot of trash that ends up everywhere. The county trash nets collect over 200 tons of litter every year from the Los Angeles River. The LA flood channel has enough trash to fill the Rose Bowl two times. Their sewer systems contain nearly 100 million gallons of contaminated water that residents use to drink and bathe in. Residents drop about 915,000 cigarette butts a month and they also leave behind 82,000 dog droppings every month. This begins to add up causing a lot of pollution in the streets. Many people who live here may face a greater risk for lung and heart disease due to air and water pollution.

Bakersfield,CA
Coming in at number two is Bakersfield, CA. Bakersfield also suffers from air pollution. For cities with bad air pollution, there is a constant up to date forecast on how the air is. They have good to hazardous and warn when it is not OK to go outside. This year a lot of California went up in smoke. Bakersfield was one of the cities that was affected. A fire this huge causes a lot of air pollution. The fire also wiped out a lot of trees which is never a good thing. Trees release oxygen.

Visalia, CA
Visalia is another California city. Here air and water pollution is very common. Air quality in Visalia is a 20 on a scale of 100. The higher the better. As you can see, 20 is very low. The water quality is a 30 out of 100, also not that great. California has built a lot of farms over the year. With such awful air pollution, these farms become contaminated. There is a lot of animals that get sick because of everything they eat and breathe.

Fresno, CA
Yes, another California city has made the charts. Number four
