Reasons to add chlorine to water

Chlorine is used in various ways and water types. It is used to purify our drinking water. We need to use in our swimming pool water to disinfect. It is also used in the form of bleach to keep our white clothes white. Chlorine was discovered in 1774 by a man named Carl Wilhelm Scheele. It is hazardous element and was used in World War 1 and the Iraq war. It was used in gas form as a weapon. After compression of the gas it becomes a liquid and is used in many ways.

One use for chlorine is disinfecting our drinking water. There are many differences of opinion in using it in this way. Many people believe it is hazardous and causes cancer and many other diseases. This is the biggest reason so many people, myself included, don't drink the tap water that comes out of our faucets. In recent years studies have shown that using chlorine in our drinking water has increased the risk of bladder and colon cancer.

On the other hand no one has come up with a better way to disinfect our water. As everyone knows we are at risk of using up our water supply. So to help alleviate that problem water is recycled. In order to remove the contaminants like Cholera and typhoid chlorine is being used. One way to make your water even cleaner and remove the chlorine is to buy a water filter.

Another use for chlorine in water is in swimming pools. There are so many different bacterias that are in pool water and chlorine is the number 1 way to get rid of it. However many people have adverse reactions to the chlorine such as itching, dry skin, irritated eyes and nose. There are other less harmful things you can use to clean your pool water such as Bromine, copper, silver, and Polymeric Biguanides

Lastly, the third use for chlorine is in our laundry. Everyone knows bleach is necessary if you want to keep your white clothes white. Bleach is made up 5 - 6 percent chlorine. Everyone is aware of how deadly bleach is if you drink it. However we use it to wash our clothes, sinks, toilets and many other things. Prolonged exposure to it also not good for your health.

I think it may be a good idea to come up with some healthier ways to clean our clothes and water. When chlorine 1st started being used people were unaware of the hazards. Now the hazards are known and safer products need to be used. We are destroying our health and environment and something needs to be done before it is too late.
