Principles of Feng Shui can help you promote positive energy in any type of bedroom. All bedrooms should be designed primarily for rest and rejuvenation. However, adult bedrooms can also be designed for passion and romance, while bedrooms for children can encourage comfort and security.
The position of the bed is important in any bedroom. While aligning the head of your bed with a particular direction (North, South, East, West) can promote specific benefits to your rest, directional sleeping is not always necessary.
Place your bed in view of the door, without being directly in front of it. If your bed must be in line with the door, opt for a high footboard, or place a sturdy trunk or bench at the foot of your bed. Hang a small mirror to reflect the door, if you cannot see it from the bed.
The view from your bed should be pleasing. Display artwork and beautiful items around the room, and shut or screen bathroom and closet doors. It is better to not have TVs in bedrooms. If you do, use furniture with doors that close at bedtime. To fight insomnia, cover windows and large mirrors at night as well.
The best colors in a bedroom reflect skin tones, such as shades of beige, brown, yellow, pink, red, or violet in either deep colors or pastels. Bedrooms that are primarily cool tones, including gray, white, black, green, or blue may feel less inviting.

Children's Bedrooms
While pictures of the family do not belong in an adult bedroom, they are a wonderful addition to children's rooms. Photographs of family and friends, particularly of parents and grandparents, can help a child feel secure at night.
Children's bedrooms are often decorated in vibrant, active themes. If your child is hyperactive or has trouble sleeping, try a more soothing palette. Putting toys away before bed and ensuring that any pets in the room are well cared for will also encourage positive energy.
