Marketing for eBay comes natural to some while others struggle to get their feet wet so to speak. Here are a few quick suggestions that are easy to implement:
1) Blogs If you are a member of a blog then use it and eBay users are allowed to use the eBay blogging system to advertise as long as they do not do consistent spamming. They often play games in the blogs for frequent bloggers that get you free advertising. Make a friend or two in there and ask them to place you on their favorite sellers list. If you are having a sale; announce it along with one of your other posts of the day if you have time.
2) Groups Same concept as the blogs some have a place to list your daily special or have webrings you can join to get you more exposure within eBay. When you join groups outside of eBay look and see if they allow you to post a link to your eBay store/listings page.
3) Email Constant Contact is probably the best solution I know of. It is amazingly easy to put together emails and is set up to allow unsubscribing. If cost is an issue however eBay does allow you to have newsletters in your seller tools so use that instead.
4) Email Signature - Edit your signature on your personal emails to include a link to your eBay store/listings and remember you can edit this any time to include html for sales you are currently having. Just remember to remove it when it is over so it isn't a dead link.
5) Chats - If you are a person that likes to chat on say yahoo or msn then make sure your profile has a link to your eBay store/listings. Use the latest news or some other area to create a little blip about your sale. Again remember to remove it when the sale is over. As long as you are not spamming the rooms with this and it just happens to be on your profile then people are more likely to visit the page to see what you have going on there without thinking you are just a bot.
6) Promotional Flyer Pass these out anywhere you can; the office, convenience stores, always include in shipments being sent out, etc.
7) Business Cards Exchange business cards any time you can with potential business partners or potential customers. Be sure you send one to your past customers at least once every 6 months via mail with a promotional flyer. When you do this you should include a stamped postcard asking them to return it if they have any questions or want you to stop sending them mail as a sort of opt out option and have your email address on everything so they can just email you if they don't want the hassle of mailing the card.
8) Pens You can by a small order of pens with your information on it to put with your mail as a gift, with orders, or to place around at stores locally.
Keep in mind you should always use the link with the "&refid=store" or "?refid=store" extension whichever is more appropriate for where you are sending the potential customer. For example http://stores.ebay.com/(store name here)?refid=store will take you to that store and if you are new to eBay or meet other criteria that store will receive 75% credit on their final value fees for store inventory products sold.
You can find more information on this by going to the help tab on eBay and searching for "store referral" this will walk you through which page needs which extension. This may only be used when referring someone from outside of eBay but it can result in major savings on fees if used properly. Well worth the effort and this search also produces some other useful topics you may want to read about promoting your store.
