His life as an Addict
If was never supposed to be this way. His life was not supposed to turn out this way. When he was a kid he was a star athlete and he was certain that his destiny was major league baseball. Things happen though and being flung back and forth from mom to dad and then to grandma didn't help matters any. He never had any security or a real place that he felt safe at. Grandma's house was the closest thing to security where he often stayed with grandma and Uncle Will. Uncle Will wasn't a very good influence at all and most of the family got their first "high" with him.
When he was 20 years old, fate brought him together with what would end up being his wife and lifelong soul mate. She was older, in her late twenties, and had a couple of kids that were almost teens themselves. They married and had a set of twin girls. For the first time he had a sense of security and a place to call home his home. Things were good for a while but he always had that secret, the secret that his drug cravings never quite went away. Every now and then he would sneak off and splurge a bit on himself without anyone knowing.
One day at work he hurt his back and that was the end of what they knew as a normal life. That was the end of working and the beginning of what would turn out to be a lifelong opiate addiction battle. The doctors kept loading him up with Vicodin and Lorcet and soon the built up tolerance required him to start buying them off of the street to meet his growing habit. The doctors told him to take about 6 a day but that soon climbed up to about 15 before he could get the same effects as he did in the beginning.
He woke up one morning and there were no pills to be found. It wasn't long before he was deathly ill. Shakes, chills, goose bumps, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea were the end result when the pills were gone. This resulted in a constant chase for the drug and a hefty spending habit that he couldn't afford. He tried everything to get more pills, he doctor shopped to the point that he was red flagged by the insurance company and the pharmacies. He borrowed money and even attempted to call in his own prescriptions. Anything to get the dope.
A buddy of his was in a similar situation but the two had a beef and didn't speak for a while. They ended up running into each other one day and decided to rekindle their friendship since they still had their addiction in common. His so called buddy has solved his problem and no longer craved or needed
