How to set your pricing on eBay

transactions on my merchant account therefore it is wise to include it.

This just gives me a comparison of the two likely profits I could make but it also gives me insight into how much loss I might have if an item doesn't sell as well as I hope for. I just toy with it using various percentages of profit until I find a suitable range. I try to find a low cost to the buyer and still profitable enough for me to make it worth taking the time to sell the product.

*Selling Fees are the responsibility of the seller and are the standard price of doing business. If you were operating a brick and mortar style business you would not tack every little cost onto each product you sell. This is something that many sellers do not seem to understand but it is very realistic to expect to pay for the services you are receiving.

Reducing these costs are something to consider in place of passing the buck on to customers.
An example of using a reasonable portion of selling costs might be to look at your previous months sales and consider how much the total costs were and divide them by the total sales to get an average. If the average is perhaps 50 cents then I don't think too many people will have a fuss at covering that unless they are buying say a 25 cent product. Be aware of how you would feel as a customer on the other side of the fence.

Some mistakes you do not want to make is to charge them more for shipping than they know it costs you to send it. If you truly must include costs of shipping supplies you should list it separately as a handling fee. Also add a note to your description or on your about me page regarding your policy on this so they know what to expect.
