Feng shui tips for small spaces

buying yin and yang desk lamps.

A small red mat should feature near the kitchen sink to hold positive chi energy from draining away. Another small red rug should be in the bathroom for the same purpose. A clay bowl of rounded pebbles in both the bathroom and kitchen areas will ground your water zones. Let these bowls multi-task as candle holders for chunky, dripless candles.

Treat yourself to a plant in your small space. Just one Peace Lily will enrich your oxygen and the snowy white blooms will lift your soul.

And maybe you just have to have some ornament somewhere, permanently, even if space is limited. The bookshelves are dripping with books; the storage areas are choked; there is just one table for dining and for study, yet you may still want a special ornament that will not rotate with the others in and out of the pot drawer.

Think jade! Maybe stylish jade book-ends? A small jade water feature in the centre of your table? Imagine a small jade statuette on a flat stone, keeping it above a tiny "lake of water" with floating fresh petals in a simple shaped, clear crystal bowl? You will have a tiny natural treasure, a heartland in your small space. For jade, in ancient Chinese traditions, is a sign of good luck.

And finally, be tidy; clean and tiny. Even if it means some items are carefully, even tightly lined up (such as books), tidiness enhances peace of the spirit.

A small space is not a hopeless space for feng shui enthusiasts. Yes! It may be a challenge! Yes! To achieve a little feng shui you may have to break other feng shui rules! But as long as you optimize a vision of clear, free-flowing, balanced space and achieve a magical focal point, then your spirit will feel and know, even a small space can be a sanctuary.
