by going to paypal not through the email but the long way of typing it in the address bar or your favorite's link and checking not only your balance but who and what payments you have actually received.
Paypal and eBay work very well together on trying to prevent fraud and known fraudulent users will usually be caught almost immediately and a notice placed in your paypal account if this has occured.
Verify the address with an email to the buyer within eBay if it makes you feel better. If you choose to ship a package to an unverified address you may be at risk. I would question it very highly if this is an item of a large value.
Paypal/eBay protection only covers the verified address they provide you so if a user asks you to ship it anywhere else I would suggest telling them you cannot and if they insist that it must I would contact eBay live for some assistance. It might be a simple case of wanting it shipped to a grandchild or friend as a gift but then again it might be a case of a stolen user id in an attempt to commit fraud.
Be sure you keep your tracking information on all orders shipped as well.
Always take out insurance when the product costs more than you can afford to be responsible for and make sure you follow the guidelines set by the shipping service. They can be tricky and require allowing a long time for claims "in the event they are lost".
If you ship worldwide make sure you understand the rules and what countries you are allowed to ship to. eBay for very good reasons has rules on this and they are based on rules set in place by the government of the country you reside in.
