When the subject of gun control comes up, the first person I think of was an infamous gun control advocate; Adolph Hitler. Hitler knew that if he could control the way ordinary citizens were armed, he could do anything he wanted with Germany. He, of course, intended to eventually extend that to the world.
The 1938 Nazi gun laws strictly prohibited Jewish people from being licensed to manufacture guns and ammunitions. A few months later, Jewish people were prohibited from owning any dangerous weapons. Hitler deliberately set about making sure the people he was about to try to wipe off the planet were incapable of defending themselves.
Gun control does more than just take away some guns. It puts power into the hands that still hold the guns. It takes away the power of the average citizen to fend for themselves and defend themselves.
I understand the thought processes that motivate gun control advocates. They associate guns with violence and death. What a gun advocate fails to realize is this; when guns become illegal the only people who will own guns are the criminals. That leaves the ordinary citizen at the mercy of the government and the criminals.
Anytime something becomes illegal it creates a black market for that item. History teaches us that lesson with Prohibition and drugs. The consumption of alcohol didn't stop when it became illegal. I doubt if it even slowed down. All Prohibition did was make rich men out of the men willing to supply alcohol. Cocaine has been illegal since the Harrison Narcotics Act in 1914. Did that stop cocaine use? How many millions are made by selling cocaine each year?
If gun ownership is outlawed it will take guns away from people who would use it for self-defense or recreational purposes. It will make the purchase of a gun more expensive for the average criminal. It will make the sale of guns more profitable for the gun runners. It will not take guns off the streets.
Imagine the scenario if there were (God forbid) more terrorists acts on American soil. Imagine devastation far wider spread than New York City. What about natural disasters like Katrina? I intend to be one of the survivors. Survival includes being able to defend yourself, your family, and your belongings. It includes being able to hunt for food.
American citizens have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. American citizens were never intended to be in a position like the German Jews; unarmed and defenseless. People have used weapons for food and sport for millions of years. In this modern world with global genocide and terrorism I don't think the government and the criminals being the only ones who have guns sounds like a good game plan.
