Christian heavy metal is on the rise. Creed is my personal favorite band when I'm in the mood for Christian heavy metal.
Before I became a Christian, I was a rebellious teenager who rocked to the tunes of Guns-N-Roses, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Poison, and Skid Row. I have also had the occasional hankering for Ozzy. Imagine my dismay when I became a Christian and could no longer agree with the lyrics of many of their songs.
Fortunately, I discovered Creed and other Christian contemporary music bands. For someone like me who used to "bang" with the rest of them, I was overjoyed to discover I could still "rock on" if the need arose.
Some Christians may turn their nose to "rock-n-roll Jesus music" but I love it. What better way for a born again Christian to show their transformation in their praise and worship? Singing praises to the great I AM instead of phrases promoting death, sin, etc... is one aspect of transformation through the Holy Spirit. Who cares if one wants to hear it set to a tune that they previously enjoyed in their youth? The point is that God is being praised and glorified.
I am so glad that there is a variety of ways in which one can express their love and thanksgiving to the Lord, Jesus Christ. It would be a pretty dull world if every believer praised Him in the exact same manner. We are all different with different personalities. He made us that way for a reason. We are not here to become robots and clones. We are here to glorify Him by our transformations through His grace; taking what we were before and making it better through the change of our hearts and intentions.
