I believe giving IS receiving....When you give, you receive gratitude, appreciation and love...The warm smile from someone you have helped, that says THANKYOU. The BIG BEAR HUG from a friend that says I LOVE YOU, and the heartfelt words that say, I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU...Giving something to someone is the greatest gift, whether it be material, or physical..it can make a HUGE difference in someone's life. I have been brought up with all the old fashioned beliefs...Respect your elders, speak only when spoken to, earn your keep, treat everyone as equal and hold those you love close to your heart. Strangers are just friends we haven't met yet, and to help someone you don't know, just to make a difference in their life, or to make their day easier..to ME, is receiving. My occupation is cleaning peoples houses for them while they are at work, so they can come home to a clean fresh home and sit down, relax and know that they don't have to worry about anything but themselves. Some people turn their noses up at the thought of doing that as a job, but I find it to be one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. To know that they appreciate my help and value my time, is very gratifying because it makes me feel good within myself to have been able to help make someone else's life that little bit easier.
These days people have become greedy and selfish, and would rather receive than give, because they believe it takes away a part of them..which in fact is not the case. But if you have been brought up getting everything you ask for as a child, then you expect no less, which is why I make my children earn everything they want. My eldest son does not get pocket money for doing household chores, the way I see it, he is part of the family unit, so why should he get paid to clean up after himself? He keeps his room spotless, does the dishes every night, takes the rubbish out every Thursday morning, gets himself up for school, makes his lunch, breakfast etc, and he has so much respect for me, it's not funny! I have told him that if he does things for me without me asking, I will appreciate it SO much. That is HIM GIVING to ME, and HIM RECEIVING positive praise and unconditional love from me. We have a very strong bond! To give is to receive...that's what I believe...Mel xox
