married because you think you are getting old, want someone to look after you, want to escape your parents or you are in a rush to have children.

These relationships often peter out, especially once children have grown up and left home, because suddenly you realize you no longer have anything in common and you have run out of things to talk about.

Don't marry for money or because someone is good looking. If you have genuine feelings for someone with these qualities, lucky you! But if you don't you could find yourself miserable and emotionally unfulfilled, trapped in a loveless marriage (particularly if you depend on your partner financially).

In summary "Jane Austen's Guide to Dating" is all about common sense, good judgement and not being blinded by superficial people, just as it was in Jane Austen's day.

If you have a penchant for reading dating books and you would like more information regarding the ideas I've summed up from the book or you would like extra advice throw all the other dating books you own out and get this one. It is the only one you need.

The most valuable thing I learnt from this book was "don't judge a book by it's cover. Open it up and peruse what is on the inside, just as with people it may surprise you and you might even learn something.
