It is arguable as to whether there are many people who actually hate to receive a gift or kind gesture. For many the act of giving has benefits far greater than that of merely receiving. As we enter the holiday season, everyone will no doubt be presented with numerous opportunities to think about the type of person they are.
The feeling one gets from giving is derived from satisfaction we feel in helping someone in need or acknowledging our feelings for someone. The effort whether it be material in nature or just a kind gesture such as a phone call is symbolic of our feelings. Some people may feel reluctant to make a gesture for fear of not being acknowledged in return. If you can get past that fear, you will feel happiness for just making the effort and you may be surprised to find that the effort will be well received.
Another benefit of giving is that new relationships can be formed through giving. Meeting new people, helping someone in need, or a kind gesture can help to form relationships which will last the rest of your life. Even if you are into receiving, the formation of new relationships can represent interesting new ways to benefit in the future. Sounds very self-serving, but it represents a benefit of giving for some.
If you look around the world there are so many who are less fortunate. By spreading good will as well as material wealth around, you will be helping to elevate everyone to a higher level of satisfaction. This may in turn come back to you in the form of a return gesture. The
feeling of action and involvement is more satisfying than just waiting for something to happen. Thus the benefits of giving are many, some visible and others not so visible.
