The first step towards creating balance, creativity, productivity and success for your home business is to begin by choosing a location for your office that will be most favorable for producing these conditions.
Office location.
It is believed by masters of feng shui that life energy, or 'Chi', is at the heart of wellness and harmony. If the level of Chi in your home office is good then business will prosper. The best place to locate your home office is toward the front of your house as this is where Chi energy first enters the building. A constant movement of subtle energies will promote endurance and a fresh approach in dealing with business issues.
An office located below the floor where the front entrance is placed will be more liable to accumulate stagnant Chi, which can cause headaches and a lack of enthusiasm. Like-wise, an office placed under a slanted ceiling or which is a tiny room under the stairs will have very little free flowing Chi, leading to lead to physical and mental discomfort and apathy.
If you expect to receive clients in your office try to have them enter from a separate door than you and your family use. Keeping your home and your work as separate as possible will mean that work issues won't interfere with personal relationships. It will also mean you are able to feel more at home when you finish work and are less likely to develop insomnia.
Shape of the office.
If you have a choice opt for a rectangular room, rather than one which is either L shaped or uneven in shape. If you have no choice but to have an uneven room separate an area for work that makes a rectangular shape and use the other part of the room as an area to sit.
Color of the office.
Yellow walls and a white ceiling will promote freshness and stimulation. The ceiling will reflect light, helping to keep your mind active and bright. White walls are best kept for an office that has had to be placed in an unfavorably dark area with little movement of Chi. The whiteness will help to make the space lighter and a fan should be used to promote the flow of Chi, although avoid having a ceiling fan as this will be disruptive.
Blue walls and a white ceiling are useful if you need a calming environment. This would be helpful for a counsellor’s office, or someone who deals with the problems of others. Green walls and a white ceiling are grounding and are very useful when down to earth thinking is required in the office; where as dark colors on the walls or ceiling are to be avoided
