"And the Lord said unto me. They have well spoken that which they have spoken, I will raise them up a "prophet" from among their brethren like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him."(Deuteronomy 18:17-19)
"... Those who follow the Messenger, the Immaculate One, whom they find mentioned in the Torah and the Gospel which are with them". (Al-Quran 7:158)
Say (O Muhammad): O mankind I am sent unto you all, as the Messenger of God, to whom belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no God but He: it is he that giveth both life and death. So believe in God and his Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believeth in God and his words: follow him that (so) ye may be guided. (Al-Quran 7:159)

He is also known as "Ahmed". His name is mentioned in most Religious Scriptures. Muslims are conscious of this name through their scriptures; and give an extra preference him in their lives.
They name their children with adding some more short names "before" or "after" this name "Muhammad" as "Muhammad Ali", "Muhammad Haroon", "Muhammad Farid", "Ghulam Muhammad","Ali Muhammad","Khan Muhammad", "Ahmed Ali", "Ahmed Nawaz", "Noor Ahmed", "Ghulam Ahmed" and "Nisar Ahmed" etc. because they believe that name "Muhammad" was only given to the Prophet Muhammad only, so they can't name just "Muhammad" or "Ahmed" their children without any prefix or suffix to it. When some one is named as Muhammad Ali or Ahmed
