I don't think it makes any sense to make body building mandatory for students. Why single out body building over other exercises and sports? If you were to make body building a mandatory requirement for students, then why stop there? Why not make other forms of exercise mandatory as well? I believe that body building would be a good exercise option to offer students, but I see no rhyme or reason to make it mandatory.
Physical exercise of any kind is beneficial, so, if a school has a mandatory phyiscal education program in place, that is a good thing. The school should offer a wide range of exercise options to students. Many students will have natural interests in certain activities, other students will be interested in something else. It doesn't make sense to single out a particular form of exercise, especially body building, an exercise that is done more with the goals of muscle building and sculpting in mind as opposed to generalized exercise and fitness.
I believe that schools have a right to mandate some form of physical exercise for their students. However, requiring students to participate in weight training or other specialized forms of exercise seems to fall under the umbrella of overkill.
