This enterprise has a purpose and I am driven to carry out that purpose. Why? That purpose is my passion it is my dream. I understand that fulfillment begins with strategy, (methods or steps) to fulfilling what I have dreamt. These plans combined will get this enterprise to one single point. That single point is my mission. What I have written is a verbal expression of my dream and how I am going to achieve it this is my mission statement.
How does one write a mission statement. One must first have a dream. That dream (vision) must be detailed on paper for a dream will remain a vapor unless it is manifested for all to see. Sometimes there is a block. I can not seem to get my thoughts on paper. What is the biggest block between a dreamers vision and the paper? The inability to understand why something is desired or the relative importance of a dream is the biggest block. The dreamers must first answer, why before he or she can answer what and how. There are a million dreamers and millions of dreams but understanding what sets apart one dream or vision from a million others that have floated to your head that is the beginning. Begin with answering this question, Why is this one vision so important? How is this vision different? What will the fruition of this dream accomplish?
Mission statements should be clear and specific. One should be able to outline goals and plans that will accomplish the mission. Clear water can not be drawn from a muddied well. Sure the water exists and it might be very refreshing. What good is muddy water? No one will want to drink it. Likewise, clear and precise progressive strategies can not be drawn from an unclear purpose. Knowing the Why? How? and What? before committing to paper is very important.
Here are a review of the steps
1. Have a dream
2. Why? Recognize the importance of that dream and be able to define it or explain it. (What separates this vision from all others).
3. What? Think about what ways you can make this vision a reality?
4. How? How will you go about accomplishing this?
5. Commit all your brainstorming to paper
6. Review/get feedback/final edit
