Where do we get our personal values?

Here's my soapbox view. Personal values come from the choices we each make. Almost nothing sets me off more, than to hear someone blame someone else for their actions. That person was killed because I was abused by my parent(s). Baloney! That person was killed because you consciously made the decision to do it. A child was molested because a conscious decision was made to do it. Not because you were molested as a child. We each have an opportunity to change regardless of the environment we grew up in. We adults have the once in a lifetime opportunity to change and influence the children in our lives; to teach them how to create their personal values by making the right decisions. I grew up in an abusive family. My parents were alcoholics and my step-father molested me. When I became an adult it would have been so easy to live the same kind of life. However, I choose to not be an alcoholic and of course to not be abusive to anyone ever. Our personal values come from within ourselves. We humans are a highly intelligent species. We have the ability to learn, create and to become whatever we choose to be, inventor, doctor, lawyer, teacher and so on. It all depends, in my opinion, on the personal values we each create to satisfy ourselves. The environment we grow up in definitely has an impact on personal values. Use your brain, if it is not an environment you want for you and your children, change it. Change the personal value. Change the choices you offer to your children. Life to me is about change. If you are not changing, you are not growing. The path or road you select is determined by the personal values you, and you alone, have chosen.
