Feng shui tips for the bathroom

Most bathrooms are decorated in blues and whites to reflect water, but according to Feng Shui you should use the opposite of this element to temper its transient nature.

When you think of the bathroom, the element that immediately springs to mind is, of course, water. Pure water is essential to our ecosystem, bringing vitality and abundance. But when it is impure, for example water in drains, sewers and stagnant ponds; it can have a detrimental effect. Bathrooms are more associated with cleansing and waste than life, and it is essential not to overstimulate water's influence.

In Feng Shui, designers tend to utilize the quieter and less busy areas of a home to locate the bathroom. Since water's own colors are black or blue, choose other ones for the walls, shower curtains and towels to achieve a balance. Water is supported by metal, so reduce the use of white, chromes and silver. You can drain some of the water element by bringing in plenty of wood best achieved by introducing a green theme to the room.

The size of the image that you first see of yourself in the morning symbolizes the size of your dream for the day. The bigger the mirror, the more you can see of your self and thus the bigger your dreams.

A tiny mirror does not foretell a promising future.
Bathroom cabinets with two mirrors divide your energy.
The next time you're in a top hotel or restaurant, or at a meeting with an important company, notice the size of the mirrors when you go to the bathroom. The bigger their mirrors, the bigger their success. Try it out at home and see what the future brings you.

If you're on a limited budget or in rental accommodation, you can't simply rip everything out and start again. Don't despair; there are plenty of quick fixes you can use.

Introduce green Bathrooms are often painted or tiles white for easy cleaning and to emphasize space. You can counter the stark, sterile effect of most bathroom dcor by introducing soft, forest-green colored towels, flannels and shower-curtains if used.
Keep energy locked in You should take extra care in the arrangement of your bathroom if it is located in the south-east sector of your property. The south-east in Feng Shui is associated with luck, wealth, prosperity and abundance. It is not the ideal place to site a bathroom, a place from which things usually drain away. This can be remedied by always keeping the door shut and making sure that the toilet seat is down when not in use.
