Feng shui tips for the home office

Your home office may be small and cramped, or one that just contains your desk, computer and fax machine. It can also be quite a large room of the house.

How can you optimize this space to create a work environment that is productive and beneficial to your business? Follow some of the guidelines below to create feng shui enhancements in the home office.

When considering the feng shui arrangement of your home office or study, it's important that it is designed and enhanced accurately.

The position of your desk and office arrangement can effect your business, creative and concentration abilities. This area is to be one that promotes focus, whether it's used to read or to study, it must be one that allows you to achieve your best.

WHERE THE HOME OFFICE SHOULD BE POSITIONED

If you are earning a living from your home office, make sure it is placed in the South area. This area enhances fame, wealth and success.

If your home office is for study or reading, have it positioned in the North east area of your home to promote scholarly success and knowledge.

PLACEMENT OF THE DESK

This is the most important aspect when considering the furniture placement in your office.

*Your desk must always face the door. This is a 'commanding' and authoritative position.

*Your desk must never be placed so that your back is to the door. You are unable to see who enters, and may find yourself surprised or jumpy when people approach you. With your back to the door you may also find that your paranoia increases. This also applies for work station within a company. Place a mirror on your desk so you can see anyone approaching if this position is unavoidable.

*Place your desk so that it can view the whole room. This will promote clear judgment and your authority will be respected by those around you.

*Try not to sit with your back to a window, sit with your back against a solid wall for security.

PLACEMENT OF OBJECTS IN YOUR OFFICE SPACE

*Try to avoid sharp and pointed objects in your office. If one is pointed at your back it will create talk and office politics.

*Place a bowl of goldfish, 9 healthy goldfish, 8 gold and 1 black one to draw any negative energy, as the number 9 promotes wealth.

*Place a crystal above your phone to stimulate the chi energy. You will find your phone ringing with work and prospects.

*Using the Ba-Gua map transposed to your office area, use enhancements to improve each area.
For example in the Helpful Friends area, meaning the area that created good customer and business associations, place a picture of a group of friends.

*Make sure all electrical items are placed so that they are used correctly. To increase the traffic to your telephone or fax, place it in the wealth area of your office.

*Use lighting wisely in your office. Strong light is important but make sure you don't create glare. Soft lighting is relaxing but be sure you are not struggling to read documents.

CLUTTER AND FILING

Make sure your office remains clutter free. This includes your desk. Work on the theory that if a piece of paper has to be handled more than twice, it is not being given the attention it deserves.

Keep all papers filed neatly in your filing system.

These are some basic feng shui tips to use in your home office or study. For further design ideas and tips regarding outside influences, please consult a professional consultant. Having an office that is enhanced by feng shui can create a healthy and productive environment.
