Presidential Elections 2008

Who will the neo-cons endorse for the 2008 elections?

Neo-conservatives or "neo-cons" have been around ever since the founding of this country. Yes, they were known as the Federalists. In ideals, the Neo-Cons and Federalists tend to have the same line of thought when you think about it. Neo-Cons are simply the resurrected Federalists. However, religion plays a major role in politics today despite the separation of church and state. Many neo-cons are part of the "religious right." The current base of the Republican Party is comprised of Conservative Christians let alone White Conservative Christians.

African-Americans are the base of the Democratic Party. This is already a given. The question how who the Neo-Cons will endorse for the 2008 United States Presidential elections has been one of the biggest. It's already a given that the Neo-Cons will not endorse anybody from the Democratic Party. Keep in mind that Democrat is more associated with liberal while Republican is more associated with conservative at this moment. But, this could possibly change at any given time. The chances are high that they would endorse someone from the Republican Party.

The question is: who will they endorse? So far, the Republican Party hasn't had any strong candidates. Most of the focus has been directed towards the Democrats. Currently for the Republican Party, the strong runners look to be either Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney. But, it looks as if none of the Republican candidates are representing the views of the Neo-Cons.

Rudy Giuliani is not a mainstream Republican. He's not going to ban same-sex marriage or a woman's right to have an abortion. Another thing that should be brought to mind is that Giuliani is not from the South. At this moment, whoever wins the South wins the presidency. A lot of the southern states are known as the "Bible Belt" states. While Republican and conservative attend to be associated with one another, Rudy Giuliani is not a conservative Republican. Rudy Giuliani is more of a liberal Republican.

Mitt Romney looks to be strong with the Neo-Cons. But, he tends to be a more liberal but not as liberal as Rudy Giuliani. The one thing that could possibly hurt Mitt Romney would be his religious faith: Mormonism. There are plenty of Conservative Christians that do not think much of Mormonism. If they can look beyond Romney's faith, they could very much endorse him for the 2008 elections.

Senator John McCain looked to be a strong candidate in the beginning. He's been trying to make himself more appealing to the Evangelical Christians. However, many Evangelicals still aren't convinced that John McCain is the man they want to endorse. Many Evangelical Christians do make up the group of people known as the Neo-Cons.

Neo-Cons might end up staying at home during the elections.

Nothing is set in concrete at the moment on who the Neo-Cons will endorse during the 2008 US Presidential Elections. At the moment, none of the candidates look to be a Neo-Conservative.

Neo-Conservatives are faced with this question: their faith or making sure a Republican gets into office?
