Diaper rash can crop up at the worst times; actually, any time is a bad time to have diaper rash. Most cases can be prevented, but any baby can get it. How can you help your baby's behind stay rash-free?
A DRY BABY IS A HAPPY BABY
In addition to promoting cleanliness, frequent diaper changes can help stave off wicked rashes. Diaper rash thrives in a moist environment, and while your little bundle of joy is steeping in his or her own potty products, the possibility of them getting diaper rash actually doubles.
AIR THEIR CONCERNS
Fresh air helps prevent diaper rash by letting the skin dry. When you've cleaned them up with a baby wipe, let the area air-dry before you package them up again. This will help make their bottom a less-than-ideal place for bacteria to settle, and they'll probably enjoy the freedom.
SMOOTH BOTTOMS NEED SOFT DIAPERS
Babies have sensitive skin - it's brand new! Diaper rash can be caused by chafing, so it's important to make sure that the part of the diaper that touches your little one's skin is soft. Some diapers have chemicals in their stuffing that may also irritate your baby's skin, so see what they're made of - that might be the culprit!
POWDER THEIR BOTTOMS
A little dash (or two) will help block moisture from affecting your baby's skin. When skin stays moist for too long, it starts to break down - and when skin breaks down, it's easily irritated and damaged. Baby powder will put a protective barrier between your baby and their urine.
HEALTHY HABITS
Sometimes diaper rash is caused by a yeast infection or other bacterial infection. If a diaper rash won't go away, it's time to see your pediatrician to make sure there isn't an underlying cause.
When it comes to diaper rash, knowing what causes it and how to prevent it is most of the battle. By using these tried-and-true methods, your baby will stay as diaper rash-free as possible!
