Thanksgiving Is In The Air
A feeling of Thanksgiving dances through the air,
gusts stir the leaves, sending them here and there.
A cool briskness of air chills our spines,
once lively ivy lies dead and curled up on the vine.
A few leaves grip tight to bare trees,
like they can't think about going free.
Underbrush bends their weary heads,
not wanting to lie dormant like they are dead.
A buck poses across the field...stares this way,
as a wild turkey struts, causing his tail to sway.
Naked trees stand stripped of their colorful clothes,
praying for spring to come and for winter to go.
White clouds boogie across the blue sky,
black birds perch in trees way up high.
An aroma of autumn leaves permeate the air,
a breeze parts and messes up my hair.
Leaves crunch and grumble under my feet,
dried moss clings like ticks...looking bleak.
A Tom Turkey sashays along my way,
I aim and shoot win him as my prey.
There'll be meat on the table Thanksgiving Day,
I'm thankful ole Tom wandered my way.
We'll give thanks and blessings with bowed heads,
it hurts my heart to see ole Tom on the platter dead.
A blessing was sent our way,
giving us food this Thanksgiving day,
I'll partake of Ole Tom even though it'll hurt my soul,
meat to feed the family is my head of household roll.
