I can speak both an informative review and a personal view of Progressive, and neither are anything to make someone jump up and switch to this internet based company. Again, I think that is the real problem, and it proves, people still want and need personal service in times of trouble. Despite the fact, everywhere you go, you see Progressive signs and vehicles parked, when the glass breaks and lives are torn apart, Progressive is a no show.

For us, it was an endless confusion in unexplained rate hikes and changes in policy that seemed to arrive on a weekly bases. After many failed attempts to fix the issues, we gave up, and went to a local shelter insurance agent. That is not a plug for Shelter, more a promotion to find a local person who can and will speak to you. I would pay more money for that feature alone.

In a shortly researched finding, I can give you the results of some of the best raters. J.D. Powers is considered the best when it comes to "consumer in mind" ratings and surveys. They tell us Progressive is across the board "average." Average in pricing, customer response, and overall customer satisfaction. Digging a bit deeper in their findings, they confirm what I said prior, when it comes to claims settlement, and overall claims experiences, Progressive is at the bottom of the list. I find individual A.M. Best ratings towards the higher end on some agency's pages, but Progressive does not advertise their rating on their main site any longer. However, even with a superior rating from A.M. Best, I think it is safe to say, it means nothing. Once I realized A.M. Best rates on a companies "ability" to fulfill obligations, and not its "willingness" I knew it was not to be considered in this decision making process. If you like on the run, impersonal relations with your insurance company, and the lack of hands on help, then maybe Progressive is for you.
