If it is proven that Barry Bonds used performance-enhancing substances during the course of his professional baseball career, I do not believe that Bonds should be allowed into the Hall of Fame. For me the decision is an easy one. Cheaters should not be rewarded for cheating. By using steroids and other performance enhancing substances, an athlete's achievements and accomplishments are tainted and soiled. Steroids and the like are proven to enhance an athletes speed, power, endurance, and recovery. So, regardless of the sport or skill involved - hitting a baseball, dunking a basketball, or throwing a punch - a steroid user has an artificial physical edge that is undoubtedly going to affect his physical prowess which in turn will enhance his effectiveness at his chosen sport. That is cheating, and it should not be allowed.
By allowing a known steroid user into the Hall of Fame, it soils the integrity and validity of the Hall of Fame itself. The Hall of Fame is meant to be a place of enshrinement and reward for the sport's overachievers and record-setters; guys who excelled and achieved by way of hard work, skill, and persistence. I doubt the Hall of Fame was founded with the idea of allowing athletes who cheat by way of using performance-enhancing substances into its membership. Cheaters should not be rewarded for cheating. If Barry Bonds is found to have used steroids or other banned substances during his professional career, his induction into the Hall of Fame should be prevented.
