Nanci's Tales Time for night nights!
Now, I'm not saying that Nanci is lazy, but she does love to sleep. Having said that, she also loves to play, jump, run, chase, eat and be just a little bit naughty. But if we're watching TV, she'll be asleep. If I'm working on the laptop, she'll be asleep. We could be enjoying a long, indulgent Sunday morning lounge in bed, and Nanci asleep!
Fantastic!' I hear you cry, How fortunate you are to have a 3 month old puppy that actually enjoys a trip to the doggy land of nod'.
And how lovely it would be for me to be able to agree with you. Yes!' I would cry, Yes we are lucky aren't we!'
But life is never that kind. Nanci's sleep time antics are almost as frustrating as the devious way she slips a little wee out onto the dining room floor when no-one's watching. Because Nanci will only fall silently to sleep in one place. And that place just happens to be in the Master Bed.
Now, before you start thinking that taking a little siesta on top of a comfy duvet doesn't sound too distressful, let me paint you a little picture of an average evening at our house.
The voice of The Humans Come on Nanci, time for night nights!'
The voice of Miss Nanci Fantastic! Up to bed I go!'
The voice of The Humans Nanci! Get off of the bed! Come on, off. I mean it, off the bed. That's it, into your basket, sit down, good girl! Now go to sleep. Good girl. Go night nights.'
Off goes the light. I snuggle in.
Two minutes later
The voice of Miss Nanci I'll just creep out, make my way to the foot of the bed, that's it, quietly, quietlyandjump!'
The voice of The Humans Nanci! Get down! Get off. Right, back in your basket. Sit down. Sit down right now. Good girl, well done. Now go to sleep. Good girl.'
I clamber back into bed and sit quietly, listening intently. Five minutes passes and I hear deep breathing coming from the corner of the room. Wayhey!' I whisper, in delight! She is indeed asleep'.
And so I promptly drift off to the land of nod myself.
3am
The voice of Miss Nanci They must be asleep by now! Here's my chanceandjump!'
The voice of The Humans (in unison) Nanci!'
And so it continues. All night. Until, aching and weary, at around 5am, we give in and allow her to successfully launch herself onto the bed. She promptly snuggles in deep beneath the duvet, her little head resting neatly on the pillow. Sprawled out in the centre of the bed, pushing us both out to our respective sides of the mattress, she lies there quietly, basking in the joy of sleeping in a king-size, deluxe, four-poster bed! And they say it's a Dog's Life!
