Do you bring your calculator to the restaurant with you? No, I think it's very trivial and unnecessary to list calories and fat grams on menus. I've honestly never cared about how many calories were in my food as long as it tastes good. If restaurants had to list these things on the menu beside the food, I believe it would dampen the experience of dining out. Not only that it would cost the restaurants a lot of money to print new menus and they would have to pass the expense on to you in the form of higher prices on the new menu right along with the unnecessary information. Next thing you know, they will have to put a disclaimer on the menu stating that they are not liable for weight gain or higher cholesterol levels that resulted from eating their food. If you are that concerned about calories and fat grams, you should stay home and use your George Foreman grill.
There is such a thing as too much information. Imagine you are out on your first date with somebody special. You go to an expensive restaurant with all the ambiance and your date puts on his/her reading glasses and begins scanning the menu for calories, fat content and trans fats and takes half an hour to decide on the healthiest thing to order. Wouldn't that seem a bit obsessive? That first date might be the last date you have with that person. I would find that very annoying.
Dining out is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. There is a time and place for counting calories unless both of you are extremely diet conscious. Then you might not choose to go to a dinner house. There are health food restaurants that cater to dieters. They have special menus for diabetics, low sodium, low carb, etc. They have foods that boost your energy, lower your cholesterol and lighten your wallet. Unless you are under doctors orders to maintain a strict diet, Stop worrying about the details and enjoy your meal.
Go out and have a good time. You only live once, enjoy it while you can. Bon Appetit!
