Should the Church Teach Against Homosexuality?
First of all let's establish who the Church is according to the Biblical definition. The Church is the "called out group" the ekklesia. This called out group is a community of believers who are connected to the Lord Jesus Christ. Although Jesus Christ is presently in heaven sitting on the right hand of God the Father some of the members of the Church are still on the earth because the Church is the body of Christ.
Jesus paid a tremendous price in order to establish the Church He died and according to the Scripture in Acts 20:28 Jesus purchased the Church with His own blood. To that extent the Church (the called out ones) are actually an organism rather than an organization we are the Body of Christ. So since Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and we are His body on the earth we should represent His bidding on the earth.
That said should the Body of Christ teach against homosexuality? The answer is an unequivocal yes. The Church should always teach the Word of God. Granted we can teach the Word of God with a spirit of compassion but the Word should be the standard and it should be always taught in a pure unadulterated form. Let's look at what the Word says.
If we research the Scriptures we will find that the first time that the issue of homosexuality was addressed by God in Genesis 18:20 God said that homosexuality was a sin that was very great and grievous. Since the book of Genesis is a book about the beginnings one concept that is instructive to keep in mind is the Seed Plot Concept. Basically what this concept says is that if we find a spiritual concept in Genesis and we trace the concept through the entire Word of God does this concept retain its original flavor found in the book of Genesis? The issue of homosexuality is always the same it is always a great, grievous, and severe sin that God hates.
Time does not permit us to trace all the references of homosexuality in the Scriptures but let's just refer to one verse that is found in the New Testament. In the book of I Corinthians 6:9 the Word tells us that sodomites will not inherit the kingdom of God. Since there are only two options heaven (those who inherit the kingdom of God) and hell (those who do not inherit the kingdom of God) we should teach the truth about homosexuality.
Now within the community of the Church it should be understood that what ever we do we should always do it in love. To that extent within the Church community if someone who is involved
