Tips for Moms: Getting organized for the coming school year

Each school year I label 3 file folder with my kids names on each one. I have a hanging file that is on my wall by my computer. In each file I have all the essential important documents the school or sports will need. Before hand we photocopy birthcertificates and social security cards(as not to lose originals) as well as shot records. So when a coach or the school needs them we always know where to look.

I have a desk calender that I have also hung on my wall with all the contact numbers (school, teachers, coaches, etc.) on the left hand side. So at a glance, I know where the numbers are. I hilight the meetings I need not to miss and all practice and game times are in the bottom of the square on the appropriate day.
I begin school shopping for the basics whenever they are on sale so it doesn't all pile up on me. I have three stacks (one for each child) of paper and pencils and so on and when the check list arrives I cross off all I have gotten and make a list of everything else I need to get. I carry the list in my purse until all things have been bought and keep them until school begins.
I begin sorting through the kids' clothes mid summer so I can pick up the clothes they need when I see they are on sale and mainly not in season, this will save you a lot of money. So by the time school comes, I have very little money I need to spend all at once.
