Computer graphics is changing our world (and our world view) faster than at any time on the planet. Heck, our planet's people are changing too - molded in not such a nice way by the conditioning power of television! Computer graphics to the rescue. How you say... by empowering the DIGITAL STORYTELLERS!
We are dancing on the edge of a vast creative and technological Renaissance, part of a huge wave of new awareness and new technology giving creative people the competitive edge. Move over Hollywood. However you don't have to go far... at the LA Convention Center on Aug 10-12, 2004, ACM SIGGRAPH will hold its 31 gathering of cutting edge
At no other time has a generation grown up with cell phones, digital still and video cameras, laptop computers, and the kinds of Internet connectivity that enables instant communication - with almost anyone on the planet! The image mills like Hollywood and Madison Avenue, are losing their "consciousness molding grip" on the consumers mind (via television) and its ravaging incumbent effects on Humanity.
Computer Graphics in the hands of young people and especially cultural creatives; those dedicated to evolving our world, is fast becoming the chosen entertainment. From gaming consoles, video conferencing on the web, 3D world constructions and smart mob activism, the modern masses need something beyond the movie theater. They don't need to escape, they need to PARTICIPATE in making the world they will model with their lives as well as their computers. Times have changed. A wireless phone of 10 years ago is no match for the cellular videophone of NOW!
Computer graphics is driving it all! Imagine your cell phone throwing a beam on the wall; your personal television in the palm of your hand with a picture as big as you like! Life imitates art. The cell phone device of next year, ala star trek communicator, will feature a built-in projector. It plays your family videos, music videos you compose, video blog entries for your 3D art gallery on the Web, or of course beams images of your kid across the world into your living room entertainment complex (and boy is it!). You get the idea.
But Hear this! The DIGITAL STORYTELLERS are emerging. Laptop filmmakers are uploading bluetooth movie camera rushes to server spaces on the web. Did you know that Youth Media Exchange wants to add your films to its terabytes of free server space reserved for young multimedia movie makers?
