As someone who once lived, and golfed in Traverse City, Michigan it's a little irritating when people have never heard of the city, and have no idea where it is located. For those that don't know where Traverse City is, this small town with a heat of gold is on the west side of the state, about halfway through the state.
In recent years the town has changed into a nice place to escape from the real world. It's a small town, but it has everything a big city has to offer including a hip downtown art scene, and some great golfing. The golfing in Traverse City is so great that it has recently been named 12th on the list of golf destinations. What is it about Traverse City that is so special? Lets start with the Bay Meadows Golf Course.
The Bay Meadows Golf Course actually has two courses, each with their own unique features. Their Par-3 Course only has nine holes, but its perfect for beginners, and families on a golf outing together. The Executive Course also has nine holes, but the holes are a little more challenging. Playing both courses together is a great way to spend a day, and to see which course you do better at.
Also in Traverse City is the Crown Golf Course. This 18-hole course is one of the oldest ones in the area, but is very rewarding. This par-72 course is completely open to the public, and features bent grass. Weekdays have great deals where 18 holes are priced at just $35, and for $55 on the weekends, its still a pretty good deal.
The Traverse City Golf & Country Club is the creme de la creme of Traverse City golfing. Golfing at the course is only available by membership, or invitation, but if you can snag an invitation, I highly recommend you do it. With blue grass, 18 holes, and a long history, it's the perfect place for golfing in Traverse City. Making it even better is the 4 teeboxes located at every hole, which makes each one as easy or as challenging as you like. The only problem with the course is the price tag, $70 is a little steep, no matter how great the course is.
There's also Elmbrook Golf Course, which is close second on the list of best golf courses in Traverse City. This par-72 course has the same blue grass and other features of the Traverse City Golf & Country Club, only with a smaller price tag and easier access.
These four courses are just a few reasons why Traverse City is such a golfer's paradise.
