What is it about change?
How can one thing, change, be both good and evil? How can it thrive on both polar ends of the life spectrum?
People move on, and move up in search of something better, or perhaps, in search of change herself. Chasing and searching for something ((anything)) to throw them out of a rut, or to live more fully. Or maybe just to feel something new, or to feel anything at all. She will reward your quest with beauty and wonder beyond your imagination. New people, new places, new experiences...
Sometimes change wears a black hat, sneaking through the cracks and mouse holes into the hearts of the desperate unsuspecting. She takes what is good and beautiful and replaces them with the rotten and foul. Long time friends turned away for a drug, or another person. The art of music turns into an obsession with porn, or violence. And when you've lost all your loves and passions, it feels like nothing is left but to follow the tangled path change has laid for you.
And then there are some people who cower from the shadow of change, seeing her as a cruels mistress, tearing and demolishing all that lies in her way. Uprooting families, interrupting a comfortable job, destroying the accepted norm. They see only the evil possibilities of this lady. The heartlessness and cruelty, failing to ever live because of the fear of something that hasn't happened, or maybe from something that lies in the past. Incapable of moving on for fear of hurting again, they lie in mediocrity and wait to die.
Change is not for the fearful. She is for the brave! It is difficult to embrace the lady wearing the white hat. To allow her move you, to throw out some things and introduce others. To take a first step towards something, or to simplify. To never look back. Be brave! Live your life. After all, that's what life's for.
