How often have you bought a toy for a child and they had little to no interest in the toy? It can often be challenging to buy the appropriate toys for the specific child in mind. Sure the toys are all age categorized, but children are little individuals that mature, think and act differently. Knowing and understanding the child that you are buying toys for (or anything else) really helps.
I have four children and understanding who they are really helps me choose what's best for them. For example, my 4 year old daughter has a unique taste for toys. Now if you search online for toys for girls in her age group, 90% or more of your results will be dolls or a doll related toy. I know that my 4 year old will play with a doll for about the first 2-3 hours that she has it and then in will be gone. She is more into electronics. Anything that plugs in or takes batteries will keep her occupied for days. Her older sister has a Nintendo DS and I see my 4 year old playing it more often. This year I asked her what she wanted for Christmas and she replied, "A MP3 player." But my 4 year old niece wants Bratz dolls.
So as I said before, knowing the child will aid you in picking the perfect toy. Find what they like to do or even knowing what they get into the most regardless of them getting in trouble can let you know what they like to do. My four year was always meddling with the electronics in the house; the TV, cell phones, remote, and even the computer. Now that she has electronic toys of her own (like a toy Laptop), my things are a little safer now.
So here are few key things to remember when picking that perfect toy for that special young one.
1.What are they like as an individual?
2.What toys do they have now that they like the most? (Accessories for a favorite toy are
always a great pick.)
3.Are you buying the toy because you like it or because you really believe the child will
like it?
4.How much assembly is required?
5.How durable is it?
6.Be sure to check for hazards and recalls. (Even on similar items)
