Iraq, Turkey and the US Congress: The politics of denouncing genocide

Uganda was at the same level of development with United Kingdom (UK) 600 years ago. Not my words but according to president Museveni`s speech while officiating the opening of the commonwealth heads of government youth forum at Imperial Resort hotel Entebbe.
The variance of development is attributed to industrial revolution of UK and Uganda's set back to subsistence agricultural practices.

England a former colonial master is a donor country to Uganda in many avenues ranging from education, social services, and political dimension because the country still subscribe to English laws and forms of governance.

Before the American independence 1783 England was in control of many states and the Northern states furiously resisted in demand for autonomy.

Benson brick in his book; Fight for freedom: American Revolutionary War; reveals that early 1778, shortly after an American victory at Saratoga, France entered the war against Britain; Spain and the Netherlands joined as allies of France and their involvement proved decisive, with a French naval victory in the Chesapeake leading to the surrender of a British army at Yorktown in 1781.

The Treaty of Paris in 1783 ended the war and recognized the sovereignty of the United States over the territory bounded by what is now Canada to the north, Florida to the south, and the Mississippi River to the west.

The Ugandan resistance was not so furious because they were more offensive demonstrations against colonialist than taking ammunitions.
At Uganda's independence in October 1962 there was little indication that the country was headed for disaster. On the contrary, it appeared a model of stability and potential progress.

Unlike neighboring Kenya, Uganda had no alien white settler class attempting to monopolize the rewards of the cash crop economy nor was there any recent legacy of bitter and violent conflict in Uganda to compare with the 1950s Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya.

The near absence of nationalism among Uganda's diverse ethnic groups led to a series of political compromises some made up of coalitions of local and regional interest groups loosely organized into political parties.

Uganda was African producers of cotton and coffee that brought a higher standard of living, financed the education of children, and led to increased expectations for the future.
However, in a period of 45 years of independence the neighboring countries have surpassed Uganda's development, economically, and politically.
