Is blood thicker than water? From a molecular standpoint it is, but in practice I have come across some pretty thick water. Blood, in this came family, is a wonderful thing. Families should be about love, respect, and caring for one another. However, that is not always the case. And from my limited perspective, some of the best, most caring people tend to be made up of two hydrogen atoms an a single oxygen atom!

A good, true, caring friend is often times as valuable or even more valuable than a blood relative. To me that is just a fact of life. Just because somebody doesn't share a genetic link to you doesn't mean that they are incapable of treating you as a cherished loved one. And by the same token, just because you share a genetic commonality with someone does not mean that that person will have your best interests at heart or will be the best guide for you. People are people. The world is filled with a very interesting array of people; some good, some bad, and many more in between. But I think it's the quality of the person that should matter most, not whether or not they share a genetic background with you. If you are related to a person who is a jerk or who has proven to be an unreliable and untrustworthy individual, should that person mean more to you than a good, quality friend who is there for you through thick and thin? I think not! Quality should matter the most.

From a theoretical standpoint, blood should be thicker than water. In a perfect world, your family should be the one group of people who love you and cherish you and watch out for you like no other. And in turn, your loyalties and love should be the deepest for them. But, sadly, that is not always the case. Some people are blessed and would readily affirm that blood is indeed thicker than water. And that's great. But I think the truth of the matter is more towards the middle. Blood can be thicker than water, but it's not always thicker.
