Maid of honor tips: What to do if the bride has cold feet

Cold feet can cause a catastrophe if not warmed up in a heartbeat. As the maid of honor, it is your incumbent duty to assuage any fears that your best friend has. At the root of the cold feet is some form of nervous anxiety that you need to identify, and then flush out.

A bride is under an abnormal amount of stress that can cause the body to react in a numerous amount of obscure manners. Depending on the severity of the cooling of the feet, and the proximity to the wedding day will have the maid of honor flitting about haphazardly and without an agenda.

If the cold feet occur far enough away from the wedding day, the matron of honor should have enough time to appropriately deal with the situation before it reaches critical. The maid of honor should sit down with the bride and have a heart to heart conversation, with a cathartic purging of emotions being the ultimate denouement. The bride may just be jittery and need reassurance that her choice in a spouse has been well calculated, and that a lifetime of love is in the immediate offing.

Should the cold feet rear their ugly toes on the morning of the wedding, then the maid of honor needs to be prepared differently. If the bride decides to opt out of the nuptials, then the maid of honor needs to be prepared to calm the masses as she tells the guests that they now have a free afternoon and evening. The maid of honor also needs to be prepared to sit down with the would have been groom and talk to him rationally, and without blame, informing him as to why he was left at the altar by the love of his life.

The maid of honor is more than just a pretty face and a stunning, tailor made dress. She is the voice of reason and justice. She is the reminder that there can be more than one important person standing next to you on the biggest and most wonderful day of your life.
