My reason not to believe in God is very simple: the Catholic Church has given me no good evidence to believe in him. I am not talking about physical evidence, but evidence through the word, or through teachings.
First off, I do not want to believe in a God who will send my unbaptized baby to hell. Any God who would send an innocent child to hell is not a God worth believing in.
I never know what to believe when it comes to the Catholic Church. Before evolution there was Adam and Eve. Now they are saying it is just a story. That is ridiculous because then Original Sin is a hoax and no one needs to be baptized anymore, right?
I have taken my own views and have made an educational guess on who God really is. The bible may have some truth behind it. I do believe there was a man named Jesus and I think he really wanted to change a few things. I think he got a lot of followers and caused an impact. I believe there was a man named Moses who got all the slaves out of Egypt. When they got out of hand I think he created God. I do believe there was a man named Noah who may have owned a boat. Perhaps there was a few animals on board and by some miracle he survived the flood. I am sure others survived as well.
If there is a God, it is not who the Catholics all believe in. We created a God to explain how the world worked and how we got here. We weren't the first to create this imagery. All the Indians and Egyptians had their Gods. Their Gods had spoken to them as well, but we have the right God, now don't we? I think not.
We would like to feel safe when we die because we don't know what'll happen next. I don't want to believe in something like that for my whole life just to be let down at the end.
If there is a God and he is who everyone says he is, I will simply apologize and explain myself. If he is a God I would want to believe in he would see that I am a decent human being and deserve to be in heaven.
At this time I don't have that kind of faith because he is a God who demands praise and worship. What has he done for me lately to deserve that kind of praise? When I start seeing flaming talking bushes I will go to church. Until then I don't feel like I need to pray to a cross, something else man made.
If the Catholic Church spent more time investigating the past and less time fondling little boys and trying to hide the truth about Jesus' family then maybe I could begin to listen. Until then I feel like believing in what I feel is right and that is I am alive and one day I will die. Where I go I don't know, but I'm not afraid, and I won't live my life on false pretense.
