Reflections: Appreciating winter

The first snow. Yes, winter is here. The air is crisp. In winter the snow covers everything, the litter in the streets and all the unsightly things. All I see is purity. The white gown of a virgin bride. I wish winter could remain this beautiful and not be cold!
After long hours indoors I step out and my first instinct is to take a deep breath and fill my lungs with the freshness. I like to admire winter from the warmth of my room and look out of my window. I am not a big fan of winter. But I have my reasons.

I want the children to emerge from their snow suit cocoons. I want to be able to leave my windows open. I want to free myself of the layers and layers of clothing and thick socks and heavy boots. I want to just get into my car and drive off without having to scrape snow while my fingers and ears go numb. Yes, I want to drive without my foot gingerly poised over the brake pedal. I don't want to experience the dreadful feeling of losing momentary control of my car on an icy patch of road. I want to see the sidewalk and walk comfortable on it. I don't want to have to hop scotch between patches of ice.

I want to be able to see people's faces and say hello to them. Everybody is walking too quickly to get out of the cold and they are all covered up.

Yes, I look forward to winter but I want it to make room quickly to spring.

Okay, so I grew up in the tropics and I am cold weather averse.
